Here are four more helpful reminders to keep your home spiffy, efficient and up to date on maintenance that is best done in the summer time.  This is part 2 so if you have not read part 1, please do so, so you don’t miss a thing!

  1. Out of sight, out of mind… Well here is your reminder.  A lot of times we notice things in midstream of doing something else and unless we write it down or have a checklist such as this, we forget.  Something that is just as important and visible at the worst times such as; parties, gatherings or random visits from a friend or family member, would be your baseboards and trim in the house.  Simply clean with a damp cloth once a year to avoid that build up.  If yours are painted, have a spare touch-up pint and a brush to cover what won’t come off and brighten it up.
  2. Sometimes we just get busy and dread certain jobs, but a wonderful way to keep the home smelling good and these items running nicely, is to maintenance and clean them. I am talking about the garbage disposal and dishwasher.  It’s not as hard as you think.  Hot water and good dish soap for the garbage disposal will flush it right out and for the dishwasher, 2 cups of vinegar to the bottom of the dishwashing machine and running it on low will clean it up.
  3. Check what you can’t see. Inspecting your hoses to your washer, dehumidifier, dishwasher, icemaker, toilets and refrigerator for any signs of leaks, cracking or tears every 3-5 years is a good way to avoid bigger problems with these items down the road.
  4. Last but not least, checking your attic and basement for any indication of pests, insects, water leakage, mold or mildew and any signs of peeking daylight (which may be a leak that needs to be sealed). Make necessary fixes and have peace of mind knowing that you are on top of your home maintenance against the elements of your climate(s).
