Starter Spring Cleaning Reminder List

This will get you started.  There is always more cleaning to be done, of course.

  • dust crown molding and baseboards same procedure as below with best cleaner for these surfaces
  • dust ceiling corners, you can use an old t-shirt on the end of a broom to reach those tough spots
  • dust baseboards and clean scuff marks
  • dust/wash light fixtures, décor and lamp bases
  • dust ceiling fans or you are recycling dust into your air
  • wash doors (look for scuff marks) from kicking the door open to bring groceries in etc.
  • wash walls (using paint safe cleaner or soap and water
  • touch up paint moldings, dings and putty nicks and cracks
  • vacuum or wash window curtains because they sure do get dingy and dusty
  • wash window blinds
  • clean windows inside and out if you are able or hire professional
  • dust bookcases
  • polish wood furniture
  • wipe down and vacuum furniture (clean the base and under cushions) you will be amazed at what you find
  • condition leather furniture
  • remove stains from upholstered furniture
  • vacuum or wash lampshades, depending on material made of
  • deep clean hardwood, tile, linoleum, and carpet flooring
  • shampoo carpet yourself or hire a professional, up to you
  • remove rugs to shake out, then vacuum, then clean under them
  • vacuum all flooring, including corners, edges, and window edges/sills, etc.
  • clean air vents
  • dust around mirrors, picture frames, and wall hangings
  • replace light bulbs while making sure you have the energy savings & right lighting the type for the space
  • change air/furnace filter for the season
  • replace batteries in smoke detectors
  • replace batteries in carbon monoxide detectors
  • If you have a fireplace, schedule chimney cleaning
  • schedule pest control maintenance
  • Purge the four C’s = Clothes, Closets, Crawl-spaces & Clutter!
